Music Wednesday!
Ju8st to get you through that lousy Wednesday, here's a couple of vids from some bands I'm listening to these days. They can be classified as Indy, but only just- they don't meet the "must be tedious" qualifation. In fact, all of these are pretty peppy, as befitting a Wednesday.
Tender Trap - Do You Want a Boyfriend?
This video is a lot of fun- band members mugging around in some English town like the Beatles did in their videos before they discovered buses and cosplay. You can tell that this is an excellent English band, because they all look pretty average. But the question is, are they ugly enough to be a successful English band?
Karen Elson - The truth is in the dirt
Clever lyrics, an excellent quirky voice, and backup guitars that are, as Racerxmachina said, "Like the White Stripes, if they had talent."
The New Loud- Get Lost
In which the band have some trouble with their instruments. I'm sure all you musicians out there have days like this, right? In any case, this is a great post-punk band, with vocals and music that intertwine perfectly. It's a bit like if The Offspring concentrated less on being angry, and more on melodies.
The New Loud - Don't Dance
I had to toss this in because the video is as good as any I've seen anywhere. Obviously the man sacrificed his hair in order to play well. The band really shows off it's capabilities here with a lot of drama, going from rapid rock beats to orchestration, to well, a lot of stuff.
The Like - June Gloom
The Like are evidently daughters of some famous people, and they really are pretty, which normally would be strikes, or offsides or something. Fortunately they can play as well, switching between sweet lyrics and hardcore guitars and drums. I like that the drummer really seems to be enjoying herself, like Melody in Josie and the Pussycats.
The Like again, and this time with wet backup singers. Just a fun little video, that reminds me of MTV back when it was young and original.
And that's that. Now back to your dull trudge through Wednesday Afternoon.
