I am now wary of the local home grown coffeeshops...

It's thanks to yesterday, actually. When we went frame shopping, [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina went into the local Michaels, and I decided to pop over to a coffee shop to wake up a bit more. Frankly, the drawn blinds and the huge lotto banner should have tipped me off, but it wasn't until I got in there that I realized that the coffee shop was well...weird. It was dark, didn't have much in the way of coffee gear, but it did have two big screen TVs, a couple computers, and...well...shapely waitresses who were dressed far more skimpily and sexily than any coffee shop crew I've ever seen. The place was packed with mostly men in groups, mostly serious looking, and it was quiet. Too quiet. And worst of all, the inspidly sweet damn coffee cost twice as much as it usually does (probably explaining the fact that the guy at the counter seemed surprised to have someone ask for coffee.)

I'm actually still not sure what was going on in there- in spite of the outfits, it didn't seem to be prostitution (for one thing they actually were serving), but what was it a front for?. Gambling? Drugs? When I asked the cashier at Michaels, she laughed and said "That's...a really good question." According to her, there's been no police raids, but nobody really knows what's going on in there.

Now I am hesitant to step into local businesses- That Happy Donuts for example- are they really selling happy donuts, or if I walk in will there be big screen TVs and oddly quiet clientèle? AND WILL THE DONUTS BE ANY GOOD?

I am reminded of the scene in Beverly Hills Cop when Axel Foley takes his new best friends to "the best coffee shop" in town.

There are Vietnamese Coffe Shops that have scantily clad females serving coffee, tea, and smoothies to guys. They cost more because you are paying to sit there, sip your drink slowly, and watch the women walk around in their outfits. It's not a front for anything at all except staring at cute girls in skimpy outfits.

Not...that...I would know ANYTHING about these places. No. Not at all. But I've heard of them. Oh yes...I mean, right. Going now.

Now I'm curious as to where this is! I am familiar with several Michael's in the area, but don't recall seeing such a shop nearby.

Michael's on Tully Rd., San Jose, east of the 101.

The coffee, since he didn't mention: two mouthfuls of hypersweet and strong coffee over a pound of ice cubes. We would have been better recompensed for our money if he HAD bought a lotto ticket.

Ahh. I've passed by that one. Now I'll have to look for this coffee shop next time I go over there. ;-)

Thats...actually a little disappointing, come to think about it. In which case at the least I should have stayed in there until RxM came to drag me away.

But in any case, I'll send you the location. Just so you can um, know where it is. For reference purposes. Not to actually go anywhere, just so that if anyone asks you, you can tell them you've heard of one right there.

You can't miss it. Though one might want to order a coke instead- I ended up getting another coffee later, at a coffee shop that emphasized the beverages, not the waitresses.

The ladies charge a little extra when you request room for cream. ♥

Oooh, which Michaels was this? I want to check out this sketchy coffee shop, hehe.

Naughty ninja! The bad totoros put you up to that.

And you know, it might not be just a "coffee and cheesecake" joint, it may be a front for something that is a threat to the law and order, or at least morals of the neighborhood. We owe it to the good people of this city to investigate thoroughly, and maybe get caught up in some Scooby gang-ish shenanigans.

I'm just thinking about the good of the community. Really.

I think we should have a Con Ops meeting there!
