The Positives and Minuses of Blackouts

The lights were out yesterday in our apartment complex, from the time we got home, to at least 11:30.  This meant that we missed an entire evening of prepping for the party, so things are going to be a bit busier tonight and tomorrow.  No laundry, no dishes, a very hot apartment, and the worry that the items in the fridge would spoil.  No TV, no computer, no video games, not even books.

On the other hand, Sandy and I got a really nice Hawaiian BBQ pizza from the very understated pizza place up on Story,  opened a bottle of wine, and after dinner sat in our deck chairs in the dark, watching the stars and planets coming out of the haze, listening to the children playing in the pool, chatting quietly between ourselves.

So overall, the evening was a really nice plus.  I'm thinking we could do with a few more power outages in our lifestyle.  Just...not right before a party, please.

It belatedly occurs to me to offer up my unemployed tuchus to help you with party prep - as long as you don't mind grabbing me from BART, I can easily haul down there to clean, prep food, cook, whatever you need.

Ooh. This would help mightily in the AM before the actual party. I'm keen on this party being veggie/fruit intensive, which makes for slow going at parties-- no dumping doritos in a bowl and calling it a day.

To what extent are you vegetarian/vegan these days? I want to make sure you have things to eat from the grill.

I'm a veeeery casual vegetarian. I'll choose to eat veggies when they're available, but if there's nothing but meat lying around... :)

I'm not a vegan - eggs and cheese and such are fine.

I'm still absolutely off fish, though.

The party's on Saturday, right? Drop me an email and let's kick around logistics. Heck, time permitting, I'll make up a batch of my extra-oniony-onion dip, which is delish on chips and veggies alike...
