Nice to be at work so I can rest...

It's odd, way back during the last years living in Goleta, when our local social group had contracted to about half a dozen friends, I just would be this exhausted come Monday.  Actually having friends and an active social life is tiring.

Let's see...Friday we went for dinner, cake, and movie (Hellboy:three thumbs up), with [personal profile] palecur and [personal profile] anam_moon; managed to get into bed by 2:30, and woke up on Saturday just in tim to go hiking with [personal profile] deirdremoonand [profile] loopyone.  Even though i'm woefully out of shape, it was still great fun; it was interesting how hot it would get on the sunny portions of trail...enough so that shaded sections, or sections of rock with breezes were greatly appreciated.
*  Note to self: pack much more water next time- go pick up a proper wineskin, not new-fangled propel bottles!
*  Note to self: much, much more exercise.  I should not need encouraging shouts from passing fratboys!
After that, it was dinner in oakland with [personal profile] devonapple, and Batman (verdict: excellent, grim, depressing)

Sunday was another trip up to Oakland, so [personal profile] racerxmachinacould learn metalworking with [profile] ren_wench, while I prowled Berkley, and bought a couple game supplements I've been needing.  Then a drive back down the bay to visit the Bunko...Bunraku...Onsen...OBON!  That's right, I went with [profile] sandpantherto the Mountain View Obon festival at the local Buddhist temple.  With lots of things to eat, games to play, and swarms of happy families (including a lot of young folk in colorful kimonos).  I happily ate teriyaki beef yakitori, and the Japanese specialty dishes of corn on the cob and strawberry shortcake.  And then a trip back to Oakland to pick up [personal profile] racerxmachina

I'm exhausted.  But it's nice to look at the list of people up there and realize that this one weekend had us playing with more friends than we hung out with in the years before we left Goleta.  I wonder how we survived back then, and I know I wouldn't trade this exhaustion for lonely peace and quiet for the world.

Perhaps you survived on the sole entertainment of the stupidity of the college students...?

Oops.

I was NOT amused by the fratboys. If I could have mustered the energy on the upward leg of the trail, I would have shaken my cane at them and shouted that this was Nothing! Back in the 80s I used to climb trails TWICE as steep! Choked with chapparel! And it was hotter back then, dang nabbit!

*sigh* I need to exercise.

You could also lob a "Now git off mah lawn!!!" while you're at it.

I was SUPER not amused by the Frat Boys, as they threw trash in the trail that we picked up on our way back. They'd BETTER be fit enough to run down that trail, because if I catch them littering again, I am going to show them [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina's Eco-Warrior 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rectal Obstruction.
