[Science!] Like something out of 1950's Monster Movie...
...a story of a strange living slime found at a nuclear accident site, one that not only tolerates the radioactivity, but thrives on it and uses it for energy. and it's growing...
And it's actually a true story: a fungus was found in the Chernobyl reactor that uses melanin to metabolize radioactivity, the way regular plants use regular sunlight. Naturally, scientists are fascinated by the thing, and it'srevising how scientists look at fungi metabolic systems.
