"I hope that doesn't come back to haunt me." *shudder*

In a discussion of mythology in class today, I made an offhand reference to "bible myths".  Some students seemed a little shocked.

Is this the sort of thing that can get me fired or burned at the stake?

It's a good thing that you don't live anywhere in the Bible Belt, but since you're in CA, you might get a comment from a single annoyed parent, but I very much doubt anything more than that.

Auugh, it's even worse! Thank's to my unthinking comment one of my students will, 10 years from now turn out to be a bisexual science fiction LARPing webcomic artist geek! Her chances at an engineering degree and a marriage that will make her parents proud will be RUINED! AND IT WILL BE ALL MY FAULT!

Also, God will likely smite her puppy dead because she agreed that his holy book was a work of mythology, thus giving you dead puppy karma.

Kids these days just don’t hear the truth about Ginnungagap in school like they ought to. I blame society.

I once dated a graduate student who was in religious studies; she was a Wiccan. She said that when taking a class dealing with the Bible, it was interesting to see which people hesitated before taking a highlighter to the book.

Me, I want to see the LOLCat Bible duke it out with the Conservapedia Bible.

You don't live in a Bible state, I hope. Because there it COULD backfire.

Otherwise, you'll just be shocking a couple of clueless.

Oh, and

BURN THE HERETIC! BURN HER!

It depends. Do you weigh the same as a duck?

[identity profile] roseembolism.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm.....how large of a duck are we talking about here?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Any duck that floats in water and is therefore a witch.
