Wait there was a Convention!?

It seems a bit like it rushed past, but that was mainly due to my being down and out for two of the three days we attended. [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina still sniffs a bit, but after three days, my theory that I dealt as much with a bout of stomach flu as a serious hangover fits.

Anyway, Friday we had dinner in a noisy restaurant with among other people, [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina , [livejournal.com profile] sakon76 , [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage , [livejournal.com profile] kazuhiko04 , and Annoying Person. I honestly don't care for noisy restaurants and large groups so much, because with my hearing deficit it usually ends up that I can't hear a thing except when the person across from me shouts. Still, I was feeling exhausted, so that may have been a foreshadowing of what was to come.

Saturday, I got to be in a wonderful LARP called "Night at the Sci-Fi Museum, playing a discontented Luke Skywalker, to a Vader that oddly wanted reconciliation- without being redeemed to the Light side. It resulted in the most difficult family counseling session Deanna Troy ever mediated.  Not to mention Vader trying to set me up with Inara, and I, well...
Luke (to Borg Queen): "So you're a cyborg? You'd like my father.  He's...more machine than man."
Borg Queen: (looking Vader up and down) "Reeeeeallly...."
Best line actually happened before the game though:
"If you only knew of the POWER of the Timeshare, Luke! Join me, and we can rule Malibu Beach together!"
"It's a timeshare of EVIL father."

And so we partied after the LARP was over, until oh, 3AM in the morning. And I admit I got wasted. But I didn't really get drunk enough to suddenly get nausea like I did. And it was one thing to wake up with a splitting migraine, but it was another thing to be unable to keep water down. And so the day was spent dealing with grotesque biological stuff, drinking tons of water, and sleeping. As a result, I missed out on a really good LARP. More importantly, while RxM claimed that she was too tired to go to the late night party, she was actually worried about my fever, and wanted to keep watch on me in case I needed to go to the hospital. I'm both touched and embarrassed by that devotion, because I was fine, really! I didn't even have any hallucinations!

And so passed the convention. I did manage to get a copy of Reign:Enchiridion (saving me the cost of buying a setting I'm only moderately interested in. I also bought Swashbucklers of the Seven Skies, which is an intriguing setting that reminds me a bit of the best parts of Skies of Arcadia, using a version of the PDQ system that I may modify for my own settings. Finally, I also scored a copy of the original version of "Before I Kill You Mr. Bond", the one before they had to remove a certain spy's name from the title. I am SO looking forward to that. Oh, and miniatures, using thought processes along the lines of:

"Hey, this elf ranger mini is inexpensive and cute- let's give it to [livejournal.com profile] deirdremoon  for her elf ranger!" Three hours later. "Yes, this elf ranger is so cool its- Hey waitaminute, D is playing a two swords ranger, not a archer! DUH!"

I was sick, OK?

Best of all, RxM and I got to have a relatively quiet dinner at the Duke of Edinburgh (Good food, rap-playing idiots at the bar) with old friends [livejournal.com profile] kazuhiko04 and [livejournal.com profile] sakon76, treating them to some nut-free English food. We don't see them nearly often enough, so even if it was cut short, it was good to spend time with them.

And then I went home, slept more, and today I rested, fussed over work stuff, and rigged a pulley for the hanging upside-down tomato. And that's it.

So yeas, overall, not the worst convention I've been to, believe it or not. At least this time I didn't go to the hospital, and I'm mostly recovered today. I didn't do all the stuff I wanted to do, but I did do some stuff, and got to spend time with friends. And isn't that really what cons are about?

I think we know someone who can mod that for you.

It's plastic-- will that make a difference?

Bring it on Sunday to show him - he should have a better idea. I suspect it would mean acquiring another one with the appropriate other parts to scavenge, but he would know for sure.
