I was going to use this night to do a Neophile rant about car idiot lights and how useless they are for actually telling you that your car is going to stall out on an unlighted patch of highway, five miles north of King City at 9:00 on a Friday night...but that's not important.

What's really important to me is the generosity and warmth my friends showed to me and my wife over the last three days, from being picked up at the dealership, to playing in one of the best games I've been in the last three years, to putting us up an extra day.

The car was actually only a small blot on an otherwise wonderful weekend. I got to see friends I don't see nearly often enough, and had a wonderful time. And again I remembered why we really have to move tot e bay area, as soon as possible.

Ah well, we'll get to visit again in two weeks. And THIS time the car will work properly.

The mechanic insisted that the problem was that a non-factory alternator was put in. I'm going to have my electrical system checked anyway. And at least this alternator is guaranteed for a year.
