Escape From Santa Barbara Part II: Allergies, meatballs, and cats.

Some random notes on my settling in:

... since today I found out my allergies had followed me up from SB.

Chalk it down to a stuffy apartment, a sinus infection that wasn't knocked out after all, or global warming causing allergens to migrate up from SB; ]whatever the cause, I woke up with a sinus migraine, no Flonase, and no daytime antihistamines (ironic, since in the stores it's almost impossible to NOT find non-drowsy sinus meds). So, after six hours, some hot coffee, a long show and night-time sinus meds, I managed to get to the bank just before it closed, and then found myself in a daze at Ikea, eating a meatball plate, and stealing inventory names for use as characters (Reda Kavalkad and Magasin Mongstad are SO going to become game characters).

Moderately zombified, I wanted to just sit in the sun and bake my sinuses. Which is why I ended up at Ravenswood Open Space Preservation in East Palo Alto. Despite sounding like a place from a fantasy novel, Ravenswood as a dirt road ending in bike trails overlooking a march, with a fine view of high-tension wires and a refinery complex. In my muzzy state of mind, even as I put the seat back, I resolved to keep a close eye on the parcel van parked near me, since only drug dealers or other ruffians could possibly want to come out here (already my 'alone in the big city' paranoia was starting to kick in). An isolated place in the (kinda) big city? Not a place to nod off....when I woke up two hours later, I felt much more alive.

Desperate to get something useful done, I headed out to get groceries- after all, I cannot live on English muffins, canned pineapple, and Dim Sum forever- however much I may want to try. Unfortunately, though my friends helpfully pointed out the locations with the Safeway and greengrocers, it had been at night when I was concentrating on other things. So things looked grim for our boy, until I happened on the local Trader Joes. Now supplied with cheap wine, balsamic vinegar other basic staples, I feel a bit more secure. I even managed to download the Semagic client and experiment with LJ cuts.

Finally, note to self: while finicky kitty will like to eat straight cat food, it's NOT a good idea to feed kitty that much rich food. 'Nother note to self: when cleaning the couch cover that the kitty threw up on, make note of how the couch cover actualy goes on. It will save much swearing (muttered under breath so as not to scare kitty) in the long run.
