OK! Another position test comes up!
I just got word that I've been accepted to take the test for an Appraiser position for Santa Clara County.
This is the first step in the process for getting a job as an Appraiser for SCC...and unlike the test for the library position (which I heard about the night before), this time I have over two weeks notice before the test. That's time enough to actually do some studying and be prepared. So, it's time to hit the library and do my homework. This time, I'm going to go into the test prepared and ready.

But basically, you can go to any bookstore and go to the section where they sell books to help take standardized tests and pick one up for taking the California Appraiser test. It will not be for the county test and it has a lot of things in it that you will NOT need but it will be useful.
In particular, you need to read the sections covering the math involved, specifically how to calculate areas and how to do simple profit and percentage questions. I believe their may be a couple compound interest questions as well. This is a big part of the test. DO NOT BRING A CALCULATOR! They provide all materials and the calculator is a simple one so don't rely on a programmable.
The rest of the test is reading comprehension. Reading a section of text, one is a legal description of a property, and then answering questions that have you infer a lot of things from what you read. Do not kid yourself, this is a HARD test. But doing well on it is VERY important.
Good job on the first step and call me for more info. Woot!

I'll be checking to make sure you're studying, you realize. Bounce math questions off of me, I'll be sure... be sure....
OK, I'll tip my head quizzically, like a Golden retriever who's been asked what she thinks about the role of Serbian intertribal conflict in the start of World War I...
but like the retriever, I will love you devotedly. :D
