As I'm reading an intarweb debate, my wife the English major (who never read Conan) is knitting quietly next to me...
"PANTHERISH MUSCLES!"
”Pantherish muscles? Huh?”
“It’s a phrase Howard used a lot in the Conan novels."
“E.E. Howard?”
“R.E. Howard.”
“Right. ...Were he a little gay?”
“He was Texan.”
*laughter*
