How I know I'm actually working in the tech industry.
This is the thing I did not say to my supervisor today:
"Why yes, I could figure out a way to track the returns. I could easily cross reference the various forms and databases like you want. There's only one small, itsy-bitsy problem...YOU"RE USING EXCEL FOR THE DATABASE!"
"Seriously guy, I hate Access, I love Excel; I've even used Excel as impromptu databases for tiny, one-sheet projects. But for this, even I have to say Excel is coimpletely inappropriate. You need Access, or Filemaker Pro. Not Excel. Don't you have any other programs besides Excel here?"
I realized I'm truly working in the tech biz: I've just gotten a request from a supervisor to do the wrong thing using the wrong tools. Wow- I can look my tech friends in the eye now when they talk about work.
