Fascinating stuff, but could you put it behind an Lj cut tag amigo? Thanks :)

I can't believe they left off Riki Tiki Tavi. I watched that movie every year when I was a kid.

It also amuses me that they have The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but not The Return of the King.

[identity profile] roseembolism.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember Riki Tiki Tavi. It wasn't bad as I recall.

And there was no animated Lord of the Rings movie Really. Nuh-uh. You must be confusing the last half of Wizards. Not that it's hard, but....

I liked parts of Bakshi's LotR. The music was well-done, and there were some excellent scenes. The character designs worked.

He just needed to put his rotoscope away sometimes.

Then Rankin-Bass came along to "finish" it. "Where there's a whip... There's a way!"

Come to think of it, Bakashi's design for Legolas did inform my first thousand or so D&D characters. Good times.

R-B's "Return of the King" doesn't qualify. It's not a film, but direct to TV. (Which ought to take The Hobbit out of the running too, I think)

Pink Floyd's The Wall (1982): Utterly hated the whiny, self-pitying protagonist by the end.

Oookay, maybe I'm blocking it because I had a really negative experience the one time I've watched this film, but I don't remember it being animated at all.

[identity profile] roseembolism.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
You have a point there. The Wall does have animated sequences, but it really can't be considered an animated film.
