Home from the Sea

We survived the convention, and the LARP was a success, though a disorganized mess of a success.  My freinds had fun, and I nearly passed out from laughter, so that was the important thing.  I'm honopred to know such brilliant, creative people.

I'm ready for a rest from conventions though; everything is heightened at a convention, emotions, relationships, drama.  Especially drama.  I guess the point of having a good time at a convention is to not let the drama control you, and in a sense, the apocalyptic daydreams I had before the con actually served me well.  But, I am ready to avoid drama for a while.

In other news, I have a few ideas I'm tossing around, LARPwise.  Something simple, fun, and yet dramatic.  *sigh*, and so it goes....

I'm disappointed to hear that there was drama, and I hope that despite it, you had a good time this weekend. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to share in it...[livejournal.com profile] dancingshaman's anecdotes as to what happened in the LARPS were hilarious!

It wasn't so bad- based on my experience with cons, I think I can safely say there will ALWAYS be drama of one sort or another, and the important thing is how one deals with it. In my case, I think I need to build up a more robust support system if I'm going to be running a LARP.

And yes, the players were hilarious; I had trouble at times adjucating, since I was literally falling down with laughter.

How'd the rules work out for you? Feedback and fixes?

Overall, the rules worked very well, and people grasped them quickly. One nice thing is that I could quickly add on alternative resolution systems- for example, in the arm wrestling contest, instead of a normal opposed roll, I had both contestants roll three times, and added up the totals.

I also used a "stat+3" resistance value instead of the "stat+4" you recommended. In this case, it seemed to work well, since thee were still plenty of people rolling low.

I had a few problems simply from my implementation- I tended to stat people a little high, and some of the characters, such as He-Man, She-Ra and Megatron had stacked abilities that turned them into monsters as far as physical stats went. Some characters like Jerica/Jem and Cobra Commander were equally as monstrous when came to social stats.

We had a few interesting new unique abilities: Brainy Smurf had "Smurf in the Machine" which let him reprogram nearly anything. I was surprised at how quickly that resulted in Megatron being released from his gun form. Also, Pizaz had a unique trait called "Don't Give a Damn 'bout my Bad Reputation", which allowed her to automatically succeed on a social test, at the cost of failing on her next test.

Overall, I'm enthusiastic about the system, and would like to use it in the next LARP I work on. Since that looks to be a much lower-powered one, it'll be interesting to see how it works out.

I'll also be sending you a copy of the modifications I did to the abilities- which wasn't much.
