Why was he looking at ME like that?
Oct. 3rd, 2004 02:43 pmMy mother has just left the hospital after being in it for the past week following getting some very needed knee surgery (I suppose not being able to go up and down the stairs at home would be proper incentive). Naturally, I first knew of this when she called me last Sunday, the day before going into surgery. She claimed she had told me before, and decided to move the surgery time up. I have no memory of her telling me this- it may have been mentioned long enough back that I forgot. There was also a delay of a day before I managed to contact my brother-in-law and get the location of mom's recover room. Fortunately, when we got there. mom was chipper, if a bit weak.
On our second visit though, the rather brusque rehabilitation doctor came in, and asked mom if her insurance was primarily medicare or healthnet- something she couldn’t remember- she also said my sister had been unable to find the insurance card. He then started asking mom some questions about her recovery- particularly if she had problems with her memory before the surgery. Racerxmachina and I realized that he wasn't really asking about mom's recovery, but checking to see if her vagueness and memory problems were a sign of senile dementia.
This is the point where racerxmachina started laughing and pointing at me.
I had to confess to the doctor that lack of memory and vagueness was a family trait. He accepted my explanation, but looked skeptical. I had a feeling he wanted to test me for senile dementia.
Hmmph. That's all I have to say. Hmmph.
My next post will probably be about gadgetry. Hospitals are neat that way...
