GuTonight Dorothy does something rare: dhe climbs onto my lap whie I'm sitting on the counch, and asks to be petted. There is a long moment were she purrs like a car with a cylinder missing as I scartch her back and cheeks, while I tell her I love her so much. Desperately I grab onto this moment, trying to affix it into my faulty, second--rate  blue-light special excuse for a memory. There's so many things I forget, so much of my life that passes into a haze of memories that I can't quite grasp. But this is one moment I want to never forget.

"Quick! Get the camera!"
"What? What is it?
"Watch this! Dorothy knows a new trick! Do the trick Dorothy! Do the trick!"
"Well...ok...HEY! Is that a camera!? NO PICTURES!"

Ms. Dorothy says any movies must be cleared with her publicist.

Woke up this morning, with a cat standing on my chest, staring right down at me, inches from my my face.
"Hello Dorothy."
*stare* "Achoo!"
"Yaack!"
Nothing like getting sneezed at right in one's eyes to put the coming weekend in perspective.

On the other hand, I have packed my Trousers of Wonder, and as many other costumes as I can manage into a bag.  I am working on cookies, survival scones, and beef jerky.  Now we just need to see what, if any games I get into this year.  Assuming I don't have a cat-transmitted cold by Saturday.

I've found one thing when taking pictures on my Blackberry- two if you exclude the "the focus on this thing is broken, or the lens is smudged" realization.

But in this case, it's "Taking a sepia picture of a black cat on a yellow cat post in front of a yellow wall really doesn't accomplish much.

See? )

So I took a short nap today, as much to get warm as for anything else. When I woke up, I had to familiar lumps sitting on me. This time though, I sneakily grabbed my camera.

Alice: Your head needs a good washing! )

The 'What do you think you're doing?' stare )

Sadly, after this, I had to get up and go back to work.

It's not surprising that Alice would find that if she rolls over while being petted, she will fall off the footstool with a  "plop!".  Which then takes lots of petting and soothing words to settle her affronted dignity.

What IS surprising is to find out she will do the same thing AGAIN.

And yes, I totally failed in the "not laughing" part.

After making my last post, I heard Sandy in the living room saying "Are you going to do a somersault?  Somersault?"

And as soon as I come into the living room, there Dorthy was lying in the middle of the living room floor, and when she saw me: SOMERSAULT!

This is her only and best trick, and the reason Sandy claims we haven't put her on the porch for the coyotes (ninja coyotes, that can climb walls).  Pee on our stuff?  Scratch everything in sight?  She does somersaults!

And she did it just for me.

Now that is love.

Were given to me tonight by Alice and Dorothy!

This is the cover to Alice's card )

This is the inside of Alice's card- isn't it cute? )

This is Dorothy's card...she's a little different. )

The important thing though, is I love them both, VERY VERY MUCH!

Just a few days ago, I was doing a bit of nostalgic whinging to [personal profile] racerxmachina
about how the kittens are old to still play the "bedmouse game". That game involving attacking the things moving under the covers at the foot of the bed.

Well, for the last two nights, I've found out the kittens will still play the bedmouse game, under two conditions:

1.   It is some time around 3AM in the morning

2.  I've kicked off enough blankets that their sharp little teeth can go right through the
thin coverlet.  Right into my toes.

With Dorothy having been placed on a special diet (for crystals in her urine), we ran into a discovery about our kittens, and an unexpected snag in the feeding plan.

You see, Dorothy and Alice have separate food dishes, across the kitchen from each other. We didn't realize that at breakfast and dinnertime, the following dialog takes place halfway through each meal:
"Hi Dorothy, what'cha eating?"
"Food."
"Wanna switch?"
"OK."

Some shuffling around lead to Alice ending up going on a hunger strike in solidarity with Dorothy. And given what a glutton that cat is, that MEANS something. This...is going to take some work.

Yep, I've given up trying to find a local game group with an opening, or unaffiliated players who can match schedules.  I've got two brand new players- two cute hyperactive young sisters- that  I'm teaching D&D to from the ground up.

They're pretty fast learners too: in a short session last night I taught the two of them how roll up characters, using the 4D6- drop lowest method, and then ran a quick test combat where one of them got a critical hit, and the other made a good saving throw vs. a fireball.  Their reactions were good too: Alice paid close attention to the rolling dice and batted one with her paw, and Dorothy while initially shying away from the D20, came back and stared intently for a full minute before wandering away under the table.

I'm thinking that D&D may be more fun for them than either the laser pointer or balls of yarn.  So things are looking up, gaming-wise.
