What a weekend. I mean, it was fun, but I'm exhausted.

In some sort of order:

My sister called on Friday while we were celebrating [livejournal.com profile] yzo, birthday with [livejournal.com profile] sandpanther, with a last minute request: she was coming up to retrieve her daughter from her massive jerk of an ex-husband, and was wondering if they could stop by on the way back. Not having seen my sister r my incredible niece, I naturally said yes.

Saturday came with blessed, wonderful FOG. This emboldened us to merrily set off on a blackberry picking expedition before Sis arrived, which led us off on several wrong tours in the Standford area, and a recorded phone message that the blackberries had been burned to a crisp in the previous week. This in turn led to a hike on a network of footpaths in the lower reaches of the Windy hills Open Space, watching the fog billowing in a mass over the next set of ridges, and exulting in a cool and refreshing wind. I love living in a place where we can find jneat hiking just by setting off on a random road.

After that, a quick trip to Ikea, and Target for respectively, a kitten-proof rug and a new gas barbecue. We returned how to test out the BBQ and strike a blow against mankind's mortal enemy (translation: we had pork loin dressed in garlic, pepper and BBQ sauce, with a side of roasted corn)

Due to flat tire, Sis came in much later then originally planned, and ended up staying the night. My niece has grown something like a foot, in the year since I've seen her, and is growing into a beautiful you lady who is very happily hyper.

Gifts were exchanged:

  • Digital Camera for my niece, with multiple style covers and editing software.

  • Old pictures of my Mom from the 1070s, err, make that 1970s for my sister. Oh those ties they wore back then!

  • For our apartment, a beautiful seascape done by my sister, who is a talented painter. It's going up on the wall above the TV.

The next morning I fought off a headache and slight nausea- that was due to allergies, NOT a hangover thank you- to teach my niece the wonders of Katamari Damaci. And then it was off to Pancake House, for a much too filling breakfast.

More Katamari Damaci, and then a full hour in the larger pool, which turned out to be much nicer than the pool on our side of the complex. Between the four of us, I had more fun swimming than I've had for years. Nearly drowning while playing piggy back and tossing my niece around was much more fun than doing laps.

And then they left, and exhaustion set in. whew.
