My karma hates it when I have fun
Aug. 16th, 2010 09:02 pmSo after spending a lovely day and a half in Santa Barbara, I was greeted by san jose with an outstretched middle finger and a gruff "what the hell do YOU want?
Santa Barbara was lovely; the party for my mother's 87th went off well, there were guests that looked older while being younger, a homemade cake, and fuzzy-minded attempts to make Mint Julips. My niece was brilliant, and a writer friend said I had a gift for opening lines. And on Sunday there was a rare utterly beautiful day where the fog cleared out so our brunch at the beach was lovely. Shapely 20-somethings in bikinis wandered around as if they had been placed there by the tourist board.
And then I went back to San Jose. Back to traffic tickets, pissed off friends, checks that didn't clear and lying awake fretting. After a day of sweltering basement storage areas, toppling storage racks accompanied by flying hard drives, and finding out that the room for the racks was just barely too small for them to fit...
...After a day when my elbow and knee hurt, I'm wishing I had stayed in Santa Barbara.
