Twitter hit by major disruption

"Twitter has been hit by a major bug that has seen many users of the service lose all of their followers and friends. "

It was just sad. I was in downtown San Jose and Mountain View, and there were all these people wandering around with lost expressions, reflexively poking the refresh buttons on their iPhones in vain. Fortunately the police are on it and are keeping them from wandering into traffic, so far.

Becoming your friend is one of the absolute best things that's happened to me since coming to the Bay Area. So I'm wishing for great things for you in the coming year, from webcomics, to work, to love-- everything!

The Risus game on Friday went surprisingly well, given how rusty I am as a GM.  Honestly though, I shouldn't be surprised as I have as best a group of players as anyone could hope for. Of course now I face the problem that I have seven people wanting to play, and I seriously think I can only handle fgive players at the max.  Maybe I should break the game into two nights a month?

I spent time into the small hours of the morning, writing up notes that I really can't show to the players without heavy editing, so here's some some random notes:

Joint character creation went fairly smoothly.  Expanding the cliche set of Risus to encompass something more like the aspects of FATE went fairly smoothly, and the system is simple enough that character creation went fairly quickly.
  • In the game I mostly did simple difficulty tests- I could have had more challenges, to help people get used to the system.  The final challenge between the sea monster and the players I had some trouble with, as it was initially too powerful, and even with the team-up rules I had to fudge and give bonus dice to the team leader for the people assisting.  Well, I didn't HAVE to do that, but it was late, and people were eager to have it be over with.
  • I really should have suggested that people use inappropriate cliches, and possibly pumped their cliches.
  • For that matter, I think I also need to define more closely what people's cliche's are capable of.  Getting short one-sentence descriptions of what the cliche is capable of should help.
  • On the other hand, I was thrilled by how a lot of the players really got into describing what they're characters were doing.  That sort of enthusiasm is a balm to this old GM's 's withered heart.
  • For that matter, I really shouldn't be surprised when players do things I didn't expect them to do.  It did stretch part of the game beyond what I thought it would dtake, and approached one of the problems from a completely different angle, but it's going to be interesting to see how they run with things.
  • How ARE they going to get rid of the sea monster before morning?
Overall verdict: success! Now I just have to prep for the next one!

I remember Alex's brilliance. The hilarious stories about his life he would share. His courage and wit and all the other things that make him Alex. And remembering them, writing about him, the numbness that I had earlier breaks, and the tears come.

Later there will be time for helping, or for giving toasts, or for whatever can be done. But tonight, there's just memories. Remembering and grieving and missing Alex.

Managed to get [livejournal.com profile] britgeekgrrl and [livejournal.com profile] dancingshaman pretty much moved over to the new place this weekend- a weekend pretty well spent.Yesterday I mostly recovered from exhaustion, while reminding myself that if I hadn't let myself get so out of shape, it wouldn't be so bad.

But the important thing is we got them moved.  And so, a pic:

So, for the massive numbers of you who have expressed interest, here's the two places showing Coreline:

AMC Cupertino Square 16

10123 N. Wolfe Rd., Cupertino, CA, 95014

8:10 10:35

or our old friend,

AMC Mercado 20
3111 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara, CA - (888) 262-4386

7:05  9:40pm  12:10am

I'm inclined to go for the AMC Cupertino, because even though it's off Wolf and not the 101, the hours are better, and its likely to be less crowded.  The theater also got a good review, too.

Also, what do people want to see?  the regular version or the 3-D version?

This Friday it's opening, and I've heard some really great buzz on it.  So, this Friday evening I'm planning to go see it.  Is anybody interested in coming with?

here's wishing you many happy reruns of the things you like a lot!

Following my 6.1 hike up Stevens Creek/Coyote Ridge trail with [livejournal.com profile] deirdremoon , I got dinner, went home, developed the shakes and fever, had a bath, drank tons of liquids, and crawled into bed.  Today, I'm not to bad.  My knees and hips are OK, suprising given how they were complaining last night, and I'm mainly dealing with some muscle aches and pains...like my chest.  I guess I'm not used to panting that much.

It was a beautiful hike though: I got to see deer, and birds, and some really beautiful misty scenery.  I got to chat with deirdremoon while hiking about everything and nothing, which is something I just don't get to do as often as I'd like.

I also got to see just how hard I can push myself when I need to;  I have a long way to go before I'm as fit as I want to be, but I did do better than I thought I would, and I did finish the hike.  And being able to continue when my body is telling me that I absolutely have to stop is a feeling I had almost forgotten.

It's a good thing to remember.
