I'm back, and reasonably sane after my Las Vegas Honeymoon. In retrospect, maybe Vegas was a bit too high pressure for two stress puppies like us. In any case, over the next couple days I'm going to give a few notes about our trip. Nothing like what My Lovely Wife did, but just a few impressions.

We were delayed in leaving by four hours due to my having a migraine- goddamn mildew-filled apartment. When we did arrive at the rental place, we were offered a chance to drive a mustang convertible instead of our Dodge Neon- naturally we accepted. At this point, Sandpanther is likely rolling her eyes with that indulgent look that says "Well, if you couldn't get anything better, like an oxcart...", but we actually did like the thing.

Some thoughts as to Mustang convertibles:

The convertible top wasn’t used as much as it could have been- just once on the trip out. It was windy, but with the side windows open, not too cold. Once we got to Las Vega of course, with the dire warnings of the hotel and AAA ringing in our minds, we didn't dare put down the top when we were driving. It did make access to the luggage in the rear seat easy.

Convertibles also have really lousy sight lines when the top is up- the rear window is small and the blind spots huge. When the top is down though, it's wonderful- no blind spots at all, and a 360 degree sunroof is really nice. I can glance up at the clouds, stars, or the traffic copter that seems to be noticing how fast I'm going.

Mustangs have about as good acceleration as my Infinity. Their top speed seems to be about 20 miles per hour slower, though I didn't try it out- it went as fast as I needed it to, which was good.. The handling was more sluggish then the size would have seemed to indicate, and the tires slipped really badly when trying to accelerate on wet streets. The last really made me nervous, what with all the crazy tourists in Las Vegas.

As far as crazy tourists go, it was an interesting experience being one for once. I have slightly more sympathy for those poor idiots who try to navigate Santa Barbara streets and freeways. Now I merely want them clawed apart by starving cats.

The car was really comfortable to drive. The seat was low slung, it was practically like sitting in a bean bag chair. Driving in my Infinity afterward made me feel like I was sitting in my chair at work.

And damn, a SIX-CD CD CHANGER!

I say again: SIX-CD CD CHANGER!!!!

And stereo speakers that made the stereo in my Infinity sound like a cheap and tinny transistor radio. *sigh* this may be the one thing I have GOT to get for the Infinity, after I get done with the needed repairs.

All in all, it was a pretty good car to go tootling around Las Vegas in- the CD changer made life very nice, especially when it came to playing the Blue Man Group at high volume. I'm pretty pleased with our rental choice.
