It's thanks to yesterday, actually. When we went frame shopping, [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina went into the local Michaels, and I decided to pop over to a coffee shop to wake up a bit more. Frankly, the drawn blinds and the huge lotto banner should have tipped me off, but it wasn't until I got in there that I realized that the coffee shop was well...weird. It was dark, didn't have much in the way of coffee gear, but it did have two big screen TVs, a couple computers, and...well...shapely waitresses who were dressed far more skimpily and sexily than any coffee shop crew I've ever seen. The place was packed with mostly men in groups, mostly serious looking, and it was quiet. Too quiet. And worst of all, the inspidly sweet damn coffee cost twice as much as it usually does (probably explaining the fact that the guy at the counter seemed surprised to have someone ask for coffee.)

I'm actually still not sure what was going on in there- in spite of the outfits, it didn't seem to be prostitution (for one thing they actually were serving), but what was it a front for?. Gambling? Drugs? When I asked the cashier at Michaels, she laughed and said "That's...a really good question." According to her, there's been no police raids, but nobody really knows what's going on in there.

Now I am hesitant to step into local businesses- That Happy Donuts for example- are they really selling happy donuts, or if I walk in will there be big screen TVs and oddly quiet clientèle? AND WILL THE DONUTS BE ANY GOOD?
