(no subject)

SO, in light of the recent earthquakes, I decided to review and update our disaster supplies. The results were...not encouraging. In fact, between our various moves, I had let our emergency kit degrade to the point where I decided to start over from the beginning and completely redo our supplies.

Buying emergency supplies is, I have to admit, the perfect sort of "guy shopping". It's not something frivolous like buying clothing or nick-knacks, it's something that can SAVE YOUR LIFE!!! So no buying that cute pink swiss army knife (no really- Victornix has one)- it's time to get the real macho gear.

Oddly enough, it was gratifying to find out that there was a run on survival supplies, so I wasn't actually able to get everything I wanted today. So far, to review, I've got:

Water- 6 gallons
main first aid kit
hand-cranked flashlight
blanket
8 glowsticks
extra flashlights
water purifier
Assorted toiletries and towels
medications, assorted pills

I still need:
4 more gallons of water
hand-cranked radio
canned food for 5 days
cat food for 7 days
can opener
extra clothing
one of those cool multi-tool gadgets. Not too expensive, but not a really cheap one, either. Only one now, I mean it is a total toy, but I am on a budget.

For the individual emergency packs:
personal first aid kits
food bars
water packets

*sigh* and of course a couple extra daypacks for the individual emergency packs, and most likely, a 10' pole as well. RXM wants an elephant gun, but I don't know where we'll hire an elephant to fire it.
