Writer's Block: Prophecy or Fallacy?
Dec. 14th, 2008 10:47 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]Of course it's possible to predict the future. We do aso all the time, daily in fact. I doubt we could function at all without being able to predict what's going to happen.
But people don't want that. They want a special line from God to say what's going to happen. They don't want to predict the future, they want to control it, and so people from the early seers to Isaac Asimov have come up with ideas for controlling the future from the present.
Myself, I'm content with predicting the future. Like, soon I shall go to bed, sleep, and then in a while, I shall wake up and have a shower and breakfast. I control my future actions to that extent, and that's good enough for me.
